So it has finally happened; the first day of banning tourists from buying their beloved herb in the Southern cities of the Netherlands has come. From now on visitors need to have a ' wietpas' to be able to enter a coffeeshop. And this new rule states that only residents of the Netherlands can register for this so called “weedpass”. Today has been a very hectic day in coffeeshop-land as in many cities the new rule created confusion and chaos. In Maastricht, a city close to the border of Belgium only one shop opened its doors in the morning just to refuse the first tourist their entrance to the facility. This of course resulted in angry foreigners who then went in a big march to the local police station to report a case of discrimination. All other coffeeshops in Maastricht didn't open their doors at all out of protest.

Yes! Our war for the legalization of cannabis has an official new supporter! This time it’s the one we are hoping to have enough power to make a real difference in our ongoing war. It is the famous hacker group “Anonymous” that has announced to launch a big campaign dedicated to the legalization of marijuana. “Anonymous” is of course well known for their actions to help Wikileaks and for recently attacking the websites of DOJ, FBI, Universal Music, MPAA and RIAA after the MegaUpload takedown. Already for some time there were rumors about this group wanting to use their cyber-power to campaign against the war on drugs and now it seems that the group has begun the Phase 1 of the campaign we have all been waiting for.

The makers of the upcoming movie ‘Gone To Pot’, have created a contest where anybody submit a short movie clip to their Facebook page, from which the 10 best will be shown in their movie. What they want is participants to explain in a 45 seconds clip why they love weed so much. This can be a clip recorded with your phone, camera, computer or whatever and it seems that the only rule for the competition is that, next to the maximum length of 45 seconds, that there are no rules at all! Sounds like a nice contest to me. Next to having your video being shown in the closing titles of the movie you also have the chance to win up to $10,000 in prize money!

Yesterday was a great day for AIDS patients as an official study proves that marijuana-like compounds can help to find AIDS in the late-stage of this horrific decease. The research has been done by doctors from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and was published in the medical journal PloS ONE. Cristina Maria Costantino, the leader of the study explains: “We knew that cannabinoid like marijuana can have a therapeutic effect in AIDS patients, but did not understand how they influence the spread of the virus itself." Does this mean that HIV patients will be smoking pot?

His father has broken state and federal laws by giving his son cannabis oil to treat the pain and side effects that come with such severe chemo treatments and has helped the tumor to fully disappear.
