It might look like society is shifting towards legalization everywhere. Well, not in Finland. "Finnish police have raided a business selling gardening equipment, on suspicion that the company is deliberately promoting the use of illegal drugs by selling equipment for the home cultivation of cannabis. There are no precedents in Finnish legal history on whether or not selling gardening equipment can be construed as promoting drug crime. The police are testing their boundaries."

Kiwis have one the highest rates of pot smoking in the world, and soon they will have "cannabis clubs" where they can indulge in their pastime. Pot dens, where people can smoke, buy or even formally study the illegal drug, are poised to open throughout the country this year. The first so-called "cannabis connoisseurs club" opened in Auckland, New Zealand more than a year ago. And given that police have turned a blind eye to the operation, the owner has now announced plans to open a club in every big city.

Seattle: dismission of cases for pot possession

All marijuana-possession cases in Seattle will be dismissed by the new city's attorney Pete Holmes. This includes those cases that were already under way under the old city attorney. "We're not going to prosecute marijuana-possession cases any more" Holmes said Thursday during a public interview as part of Town Hall's Nightcap series. "I meant it when I said it, during the campaign. Unless there are 'out of the ordinary' circumstances, the office doesn't intend to file charges for marijuana possession." A politician who's actually keeping a promise?
