Amsterdam… You have heard all about it, but where the hell is it actually and how do you get there?

Amsterdam is the capital of The Netherlands (also often referred to as Holland). The Netherlands is a small country in northwestern Europe with a little bit over 16 million residents. In the north and west it’s bordered by the North Sea. As neighbor there is Belgium in the south and Germany in the east.

Far out most of you will come to Amsterdam by plane. The Netherlands has several airports, but the main airport is Schiphol International Airport. Most of the flights to The Netherlands land at Schiphol. Luckily, Schiphol is located very closely to Amsterdam and the city is very easy to reach from here.

When you reached Schiphol there are 2 options of getting to the center of Amsterdam: by taxi or by train.

When you walk out the main entrance of Schiphol you will see lots of taxis. Of course this is one possibility, especially when you do not want to hassle around with your luggage. It takes about 30 minutes getting to the city, depending on the traffic.

The easiest way to get to the city is just taking the train. Taking the train is a lot cheaper then the taxi and it’s with a 20 minute ride also a lot quicker. The railway station is located right at the airport. Just take care that the destination on your ticket is Amsterdam CS (Central Station) and you will be fine. When you walk out of Central Station you will be immediately in the center of the city.
