Dutch Government Repeats: Weed-pass Will Be Introduced

Dutch Government Repeats: Weed-pass WIll Be Introduced

Coffeeshops in The Netherlands are having a hard time at the moment. The current government already declared war to cannabis some time ago, yesterday they repeated that message. This year already the so-called weed-pass will be introduced in the south of The Netherlands and soon Amsterdam and the rest of the country will follow. If this will happen we can say goodbye to good old Amsterdam as we all know it. I don't get it. And I don't buy it either by the way. Somehow I feel they can only talk the talk...

The Dutch have a popular phrase that "business is business." Keep in mind that Maastricht, a Dutch border city, passed a similar ban but so far said ban has simply been ignored. It'll be interesting to see the impact and aftermath.

I have a feeling this proposed discrimination against EU citizens is unlikely to take effect in Amsterdam.

The Mayor has openly stated that he thinks it's a bad idea, because it’ll drastically decrease Dam's most important industry - tourism - and increase criminal activity, since many tourists will still come to the city seeking cannabis.

Some border towns will take the opportunity to be stupid (see comment from ‘visitor’, below) and discourage the 'criminal element' (generally harmless border-hopping Germans), but Iit seems unlikely that tourists will really be prevented from buying cannabis in Amsterdam coffeeshops any time soon.

One of the main reasons giving this legislation so much publicity is that the christian government wants to look like it’s tough on the cannabis 'problem', but even they are not dumb enough to throw away a billions of euros in tourist cash each year. For them, it’s better to act tough without actually doing too much.

Other examples of Amsterdam opting out of new laws that impede the tourist industry: the ban on magic mushrooms – which is not enforced in Amsterdam (partly due to the Mayor's objections); the ban on tobacco smoking indoors (whether mixed with cannabis or by itself) - largely ignored after a few months of compliance.

Dam is quite resistant to sudden change.
For the record, cannabis seeds are most likely to remain legal in Holland and most of the EU for the a long time to come!

Why go to amsterdam and waste money when you can grow just as good if not better at home.

God, I so hope that for once our politicians will have the balls to pass this law and enforce it. No more Belgians behaving badly on the roads towards the coffeeshops, no more germans puking all over the train and no more Americans and English being stoned and obnoxious all over Amsterdam!!!

Sounds too good to be true really.

Well, this weed pass wont happen in the first few years.
im from holland myself and living in the hague, im 16 years old and smoking pot since i was 13.
what will happen is that coffeeshops will be closed, my mom works in one of those who are getting closed soon.

but you guys wont have to worry about the weed pass, like the shops will listen to that kind of crap, haha.

So irritated by this. Im currently 17 and was planning on going to Amsterdam for my 18th. I've been to theNetherlands before and the people are awesome, but now without the coffee shops il have to continue smoking the lesser quality weed back in shitty England :/

This is going to suck so bad :((((((((((((((((((( I wanted to keep going to amsterdam annually and now this...And it also sucks for the coffee shops and the people who live in holland. IF they actually restricting to 1500 members.. basically people will be banned since they cant join as a member :/

Quote of the Day

"Smoking's a way to let you down slowly from a ballgame. It also makes you use less of the resources around. It makes people better in the way they act towards society. Everybody's nicer. It's hard to be mean when you're stoned."
