Medical Marijuana Patient from California facing 5-99 Years in Texas Prison.
Not even 48 hours after we posted news about Snoop Dogg being arrested in Texas for Marijuana possession, another crazy story about the Texan law reaches us. This time it is about a 22-year old medical marijuana patient that had been arrested on October 30th in Austin, Texas while carrying a small amount of medicinal marijuana and hash on him.
Christopher Diaz, who is suffering from severe asthma, moved to California with his family in order to find medical treatment for his disease and even became a member of the THC Ministry.
At the moment of arrest, Christopher was passing trough texas on his way to visit his sick grandmother and was carrying ½ ounce of Hash and about ¼ ounce of marijuana on him. (This is about 20 grams in total.) The medicine was wrapped in the medical recommendation papers that came with it when purchased in California and Christopher also carried official religious documents from the THC Ministry.
Even though it was clear that Christopher has the right to use medicinal marijuana in California, the State of Texas does not allow any form of use or possession, Christopher got arrested for possession and the Texan authorities even want to prosecute him for intent to distribute the marijuana he carried on him.
When being released to await his court date, Christopher decided it would be better to head home in California instead of facing a court in Texas.
At the moment Christopher crossed the border of Texas he officially became a fugitive for jumping bail and could face a jail sentence of 5 to 99 years!!! Currently Christopher is being held in custody in a Californian jail, waiting for extradition to Browns County, Texas with a bail set to $160,000.
Christopher’s’ lawyers claim that that the waiting for extradition could have been done at home and that the bail is set to a unbelievable amount for somebody in a position like Christopher, but Californian officials claim they are unable to help Christopher because they have to comply with Texas authorities under the Uniform Extradition Act.
Texan Law does not allow the usage of marijuana and officials claim that carrying even less than an ounce of marijuana is a serious offence.
The Brown County District Attorney Michael Murray told the media that he does not believe that Christopher had no intentions of distributing the pot and that he has to be taken to court to face the music.
At this moment Christopher is still in jail in California and could be extradited to Texas any day now...

Quote of the Day
"I don't want to fucking give the United States government one fucking dollar of taxes. I think that they should go to fucking jail for getting you and me and 20 million people getting arrested for pot. It is the safest thing you can do in the universe."

Rennifer wrote 38 weeks 4 days agoFirst, thanks for posting this article and the video links.
This is a perfect example of the failings of a state-by-state effort to legalize for medical use, and why full-blown legalization is the ONLY safe system for patients.
I'm sending some money to Christopher's defense fund because this kid needs all the help he can get. He may die from lack of appropriate care simply because he wanted to see his ill grandmother before she died.
The ultimate irony is that the U.S. has patents that cover EXACTLY the lung problems this young man is having and why cannabinoids are helpful. But apparently, that's only medicine for hippies in medical marijuana states, or a futuere cash-cow for big Pharma.
American Justice, just another OXYMORON to add to a very long list of purely American bullshit.
