Moderate Cannabis Smoking Does Not Cause Lung Damage

Moderate Cannabis Smoking Does Not Cause Lung Damage

For years and years we had to listen to the story that cannabis smokers had a much bigger chance to get lung damage than tobacco smokers. The claim was that cannabis smokers inhale deeper and hold their breath much longer than the average cigarette smoker. This process, combined with the fumes of the joint being extremely hot, would lead to a greater deal of damage to the lungs than cigarette smoking.

But, oh, the contrary!

A study by researchers at the University of California and the University of Alabama of Birmingham was released by the Journal of the American Medical Association. The researchers are claiming that cannabis does not carry the same risk for lung diseases as tobacco, even though marijuana comes with similar toxic chemicals as cigarettes.

The study is titled: ‘Association between Marijuana exposure and pulmonary function over 20 years.’ It is a twenty year study in young adults and is being financed by the US federal government.

The researchers explain their outcome by saying that they think that because weed smokers have a tendency to inhale and exhale much deeper than the average cigarette smoker, the lung will become stronger.

Also the “high” caused by THC, is helping to fight irritability and the impact of the toxins in the drug. The research proves that marijuana does not damage the lungs, but cigarettes most definitely do. Though the focus of this research was not on lung cancer but on overall lung damage, the analysts claim that many other studies have never ever found any recognized link between lung cancer and marijuana usage.

And so again, another myth gets debunked. Just like this one. Which one is next? Bring it on...

As we like to say: “A joint a day, keeps the doctor away.”

I agree very much with this study.
I Often smoke marijuana on average 2 or 3 times a week and feel
That it does not have an even comparable effect on my lungs in short
Term as to tobacco,
Even when I smoke marijuana whether it be a joint, blunt or bong I feel it is a cleaner more soothing smoke without the mix of tobacco, I rearly do mix my weed because I feel smoking it alone is the best way to enjoy it.

Totally agree with this.. I find after even excessive pot smoking that the next day my chest still feels clear and I can breathe with ease.. But I occasionally smoke Cigarettes if I happen to have them and I have found that smoking 2 or 3 Cigarettes in a whole day that I begin to obtain a painful cough and that my breathing becomes quite restricted for several days.

Keep the research going and get Cannabis legalised.
