No Weed Pass in Amsterdam!
BREAKING NEWS!
The weed pass... Most of you probably heard about it already. The weed pass is a legal monstrosity that has been in operation since may 1st 2012 in the South of Holland. Because of the introduction of the weed pass it was impossible for foreigners to visit the coffeeshops over there. The intention was that the weed pass would be introduced on January 1st 2013 throughout Holland (including Amsterdam). However, it became very clear that since the introduction a couple of months ago different cities in the south had a lot of problems with nuisance and crime, all thanks to the weed pass. You see, Dutch people can not take the weed pass. You having to register as a cannabis user? Fuck off... the Dutch say.
The street trade and the number of house dealers with any additional disruption it brings have been increased drastically in recent months. In the past few weeks a new government has formed and the weed pass was a very important subject for them.
Is the weed pass going to be introduced throughout Holland on January 1st 2013? The Answer is Yes and No... After all negotiations the past weeks they have made the decision to stick with the weed pass, but in a slightly different form. But this is the most important thing for you... For Amsterdam an exception will be made!!! (Sorry, only a Dutch link for now) The details are not all known yet, but the Mayor of Amsterdam has been lobbying with the minister of Security and Justice for a year now to spare Amsterdam; Not allowing tourists in the coffeeshops would have a drastic effect for tourists visiting the capital city of Amsterdam. More details will follow, but first we are going to light up a joint to celebrate this. So even after January 1st, 2013... you will be able to keep on scoring a huge bag of White Widow in the famous coffeeshops of Amsterdam. Thank you, Thank you, what a beautiful day... Toke on!
Update: The words from the mayor of Amsterdam were very clear: tourists are allowed to enter a coffeeshop in Amsterdam after January 1, 2013. The Minister of Justice immediately gave a reaction: Hoho, this conclusion from the mayor of Amsterdam is way too premature. No deal has been made (sorry, a Dutch link again for now). So what is it now? Well, damn, those fuckers from the government are unclear. But we are putting our money on the mayor of Amsterdam. Fuck the Weed Pass. It will not go through... (will be continued for sure...)

Amsterdam Coffee Shop Update! Dutch Drug Policy
Well, I was just about to scrap my annual chill out visit to Amsterdam when I spotted an update in the Amsterdam news! Don’t get me wrong I love the place and the people are cool but the main draw for a chill (forgive the pun) was the coffee houses. Where else can you try different strains and mix with a wide range of like-minded people legally and in comfort?
I was gutted when I heard the news that all tourists would be banned from partaking and my two mates had come up with the idea that the only way we could try new strains would be to grow it ourselves. They had even found a reputable site with 59 strains. But apart from the fact that’s illegal to grow it in the UK, I am a 32 year old male who has never grown anything in his life and managed to kill off a house plant in a week! Quite frankly I would much rather just get on a plane and pay for the luxury of trying it in comfort and join in the vibe!
So was I delighted or what, when I saw the first article in the Guardian saying that they would be turning a blind eye?
And even more stoked when I read The Amsterdam news version below….I’m off to book my plane ticket!!!!
The Amsterdam News January 2013
Here we are in 2013 and everything in the Amsterdam coffee shop scene is as it was. Nothing has changed and tourists are still welcome to buy and smoke weed in any of the capital's coffee shops. According to the mayor Eberhard van der Laan, the police will turn a blind eye and in a letter to the currect government he writes "It has been decided that Amsterdam law enforcement authorities will not attach any priority to enforcing the local residence requirement."

visitor wrote 29 weeks 13 hours agoActually, the law in effect leaves it up to the municipality in which the coffeeshop is located whether or not to enforce the enforce the law. I know for a fact that the Mayor of Schagen, a small city north of Amsterdam, has announced that they won't be complying with the law in the municipality's one coffeeshop.
