Day 1 of Banning Tourists from Dutch Coffeeshops

Day 1 of Banning Tourists from Dutch Coffeeshops

So it has finally happened; the first day of banning tourists from buying their beloved herb in the Southern cities of the Netherlands has come. From now on visitors need to have a ' wietpas' to be able to enter a coffeeshop. And this new rule states that only residents of the Netherlands can register for this so called “weedpass”. Today has been a very hectic day in coffeeshop-land as in many cities the new rule created confusion and chaos. In Maastricht, a city close to the border of Belgium only one shop opened its doors in the morning just to refuse the first tourist their entrance to the facility. This of course resulted in angry foreigners who then went in a big march to the local police station to report a case of discrimination. All other coffeeshops in Maastricht didn't open their doors at all out of protest.

Dutch Police And ESA Working Together To Find Outdoor Crops

Dutch Police And ESA Working Together To Find Outdoor Crops

They're getting more and more nuts every day in The Netherlands. Check this one: The Dutch police is going to work together with the European Space Agency (ESA) to find illegal cannabis plots hidden in fields of corn and asparagus using satellite data. Uhm, what? Yes, you read that right. They're spending billions of tax money, so they can 'explore space', and they're going to use it to find a few plants hidden in fields of corn and asparagus. On earth. WTF?

Dutch Police Raids Cannabis Cup In Amsterdam

Police Raids Cannabis Cup In Amsterdam

Holy crap. And that's the end of the Cannabis Cup as we all know it... Yesterday the police raided the Cannabis Cup Expo in Amsterdam. The police entered the expo with 150-200 cops (!) "to ensure that all vendors were in compliance with tax laws and a 500 gram limit for cannabis that is enforced in the Netherlands, for coffeeshop owners". Yeah, yeah, bullshit we say. The police didn't care about tax laws and a 500 gram limit. This is a political statement, and nothing else. The Dutch government wants to get rid of cannabis, the coffeeshops and also the 'Cannabis image' it has had worldwide for the past 30 years or so. And by cracking down the biggest cannabis event of the world, this is just a new, major step. They can't make the event illegal, but they can surely try to discourage everyone to come next year again. So they did... What a wankers. Or 'Klootzakken' as we say in The Netherlands.

Reaction from High Times: "...started over a misunderstanding about a permit application filed by the venue to host the event, a situation that lead to a clearing of the expo by law enforcement..."

Uhhh what? Also complete bullshit of course. We ain't that stupid.

Netherlands: 'Strong' Cannabis Classified As A Hard Drug

Netherlands: 'Strong' Cannabis Classified As A Hard Drug

And the 'Total Retard of the Month Award' goes to... The Dutch government! Last Friday, the Dutch government decided to classify 'strong' cannabis as a hard drug (Class A). Cannabis with a THC percentage higher than 15% is now seen as an "unacceptable risk to human health" and will therefore fall into the same category as methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine. Holy Crap! Unbelievable. Currently, the marijuana sold in Dutch coffeeshops has an average strength of 16-18%. The coffeeshops will therefore be required to sell less potent marijuana. However, an official, reliable home test of some sort is not available. How a coffeeshop owner has to deal with this new rule is still unclear. It also remains unclear when exactly this new rule will take effect. It is clear though that this government is at war. And they are at it at full speed. After their announcement some time ago to introduce the so-called 'Wietpas', this is a new, major step in the War on Cannabis from the Dutch government. We have a difficult time ahead over here...

Dutch Government Repeats: Weed-pass Will Be Introduced

Dutch Government Repeats: Weed-pass WIll Be Introduced

Coffeeshops in The Netherlands are having a hard time at the moment. The current government already declared war to cannabis some time ago, yesterday they repeated that message. This year already the so-called weed-pass will be introduced in the south of The Netherlands and soon Amsterdam and the rest of the country will follow. If this will happen we can say goodbye to good old Amsterdam as we all know it. I don't get it. And I don't buy it either by the way. Somehow I feel they can only talk the talk...

Coffeeshops in Amsterdam for locals only?

Coffeeshops in Amsterdam for locals only?

If the new government of The Netherlands gets its way, coffeeshops will be for locals only in the future. Can't believe it? Keep dreaming... Not kiddin', the plans are there and they're pretty serious about it. RIP Amsterdam as we know it. Today the mayor of Amsterdam made it pretty clear he's strongly against this idea. Go Eberhard! (Dutch link). If it helps, I don't know. But anyway, not necessary to completely freak out yet. Besides a large opposition, it will also take a lot of time to realise such a plan. My hope is: I can't believe this government will be in office for the whole 4 years, so with some luck they will simply not have enough time to finish the job.

Request: First joint or bowl you smoke, please dedicate it to Amsterdam. The city needs it... Thanks.

Quote of the Day

"I don't want to fucking give the United States government one fucking dollar of taxes. I think that they should go to fucking jail for getting you and me and 20 million people getting arrested for pot. It is the safest thing you can do in the universe."
–Jack Herer
